Yay! I am soooo excited that my @pixelfed (self hosted) will soon be live (tonight or tomorrow). Thanks @support!

Until @dansup releases the beta iOS app (as well as a future iPadOS app), I will upload photos via the @Mastodon app.

Also if you want to use your own domain I suggest buying a .app domain as most of the .com, .co, .net & .org are taken.

hey can anyone out there help me find critical/theoretical writing on hardware modding? (especially on video game hardware, but any kind of consumer modification of industrially-manufactured products would work)

I know that (e.g.) Stephanie Boluk and Patrick Lemieux have studied video game modding from a software perspective, but I don't know anyone studying hardware mods in particular.

(doesn't need to be "academic," just looking for stuff beyond tutorials and enthusiast press)

(boosts ok!)

If you think I’m overstating things, take a look at the polling on the “generic Congressional ballot” (i.e. not asking people about specific candidates, just asking them if they think Republicans or Democrats should be in control of Congress).

After Republicans being several points ahead there since the end of last year, support for Democrats started moving up at the beginning of July and has not stopped. It’s currently a dead heat.

The Dobbs decision (which overturned Roe) was issued on June 24.

The EU sanctions are biting Russia hard and deep, limiting its ability to finance aggression against Ukraine.

In coordination with 40 countries, the EU will keep up the pressure to deprive the Kremlin of the means to finance this brutal, senseless war.

After sleeping on it, & (frustratingly) checking out Instagram, I am changing my mind which means (🥁) I am going to launch my @pixelfed@pixelfed.social today.

I purchased a domain, & I will use the @Mastodon app to log into it until a proper beta iOS/iPasOS app is available (so hurry up @pixelfed@mastodon.social & launch the beta iOS app already!).

I am going to use @support for hosting, so it will be a solo hosted option.

So I set up a test account upon @pixelfed & thus far, I like the feel of the web app. Fortunately, I can use the @Mastodon iOS/iPadOS app to login into PixelFed, but I am limited to uploading four photos max (which is the default limit of Mastodon).

When I tried uploading just text, the site expectingly errored out, but a similar issue happened when I tried uploading videos. For now, I think I will use Tumblr for photos/videos.

Malware hits millions of Android users — delete these apps right now tomsguide.com/news/malware-hit

I am surprised Google has not automatically removed these apps from users phones (they have the ability to do this).

Apple has this ability too although I believe neither company has used the “nuclear app option.”

Also I am trying to reduce the number of sites that I use Google Authenticator app with. If you ever swap phones it’s a hassle to access your account again.

It’s annoying that some domain registers lack an option to speedily transfer your domain over to another domain register. Some allow you to transfer in minutes while others make you wait 5 days.

Apparently "having a work-life balance" is now known as "quiet quitting" 🤷

What does quiet quitting look like in practice?

It might be saying no to projects that aren’t part of your job description, leaving work on time, or refusing to answer emails and Slack messages outside of your working hours.

It could be as simple as a mindset shift.

Honestly, these congressional bills in the House banning AR-15 guns are worthless as the Senate will refuse to alter the filibuster to ban them nationwide.

But even if they passed it in the Senate & Joe Biden signed the AR-15 ban into law, the five-robed masters in black would strike it down due to the 2nd Amendment. I would say six but the Chief Justice is finicky.

Yay! Push notifications are working on the Mastodon app again (at least on iPhone)! It might have something to do with the public Beta on why there were mysteriously muted, but they are working again! 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾

For some reasons notifications stopped working on the Mastodon iOS/iPadOS apps. I think it has something to do with the public Apple Beta OS affecting @Mastodon (although it’s the only app affected).

Restarting devices, deleting & reinstalling the apps does not remedy the issue. I guess that means I have to check Mastodon more often. 😃

Ok, so I deleted the Mastodon iOS/iPadOS apps & redownloaded them. Hopefully that fixes the notification issues that I was encountering on iPhone & iPad.

Hmmmmm…Push notifications for my @Mastodon iPhone/iPad app have both stopped. I wonder if due to me running iOS/iPadOS [redacted]. But it's the only app affected so it has to be something else. Hmmm…
